CES Business Meetings at ASSA 2012
On the evening of Jan 7, the CES Business Meeting cum Reception was held at Hyatt Regency Hotel Chicago. More than a hundred people attended the event. The current CES President Dr. Ding Lu greeted the audience by reviewing the major CES events in 2011. He also introduced the major activities in 2012, including the Annual CES Conference to be held at Kaifeng on June 23-24; the first CES Continuing Education Program after the Annual Conference, the CES Teaching in China program, and an initiative to found a new CES journal. He also presented a plaque to the former president, Dr. Yanling Wang, as a recognition of her excellent service to the Society.
In the next hour, 14 representatives of 13 universities, schools, and institutes from China made recruitment speeches to the audience. They included: East China University of Science and Technology, School of business, School of Economics of Dalian University of Technology, Renming University and its School of business, Capital University of Economics and Business, School of Economics and Business of Beijing Normal University, Lingnan College of University of Sun Yat-Sen, China and Europe International Business School (CEIBS), Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, Henan University, Wuhan University, University of International Business and Economics, Central University of Finance and Economics, and Sichuan University. The informative and exciting speeches presented a booming demand in China’s academia for economists trained in the North America. After their speeches, the Chinese representatives interviewed and chatted with CES members and other participants who were interested in the job opportunities in these institutions.
After the meeting, some twenty attendees joined the CES board of directors for a dinner at Buca di Beppo Restaurant.
