Abstract:  The existed literatures reveal that nutrition is an important part of the formation of human capital and the educational output of rural students is lower than the urban students due to the malnutrition in developing countries. The children’s health can be measured by the BMI. The objective of this study is to quantify whether the subsidy for health improvement were effective through a RCT (randomized controlled trail) by giving nutrition subsidy intervention to schools in northwest China, and the study can help to understand the effect of school nutrition subsidy on children’s health situation in northwest China which is rarely discussed in the existing literature. By testing the causal relationship between students’ nutritional status and math test and mental test score of the students, we find a considerable negative effect as a robust result. And after the intervention, the students in the treatment group increased their BMI z-score significantly 0.03 higher and reduce the thinness rate 2.38% suggesting that when keeping other variables constant, nutritional subsidy does have a significant positive impact on a child’s health.
