Statement

I have been long affiliated with the CES and was elected as a member in the CES Board of Directors in 2007-2008. Personally I benefited enormously from my involvement in various professional activities in the CES, and welcome the opportunity to pass it on to others. Thanks to the dedication and exemplary leadership of the past Presidents and the Board of Directors, the Society has gained exceptional reputation and made remarkable contributions to the advancement of economics and management sciences in China and abroad. Many of our senior members have successfully promoted scholarly exchanges, economic growth and social development. Indeed it’s a great privilege to serve as the Board member of the CES and I would like to thank the CES members for nominating me as the President-elect of the CES.  Given my teaching, research, and administrative experiences, I am confident that, under the guidance of the Society’s regents and support of the fellow members, I will be able to further advance the Society’s professional impact and contributions. If elected, my priorities are to maintain the excellence of the current CES programs, including its annual conference in China, CES/AEA sessions, and the Chow Teaching Fellowship program. I would also endeavour to expand the membership base and assist young scholars to advance their professional careers through various networking, funding, and publication opportunities, build bridges between economic research, management practices and policy development, and encourage interdisciplinary and collaborative research in various fields of economics, management, and policy studies both in China and overseas.

Statement

Thanks to the hard work of the previous Presidents and members of Board of Directors, CES has established itself as the premier organization among overseas Chinese economists. However, the reach of the organization is largely restricted to academia. As a matter of fact, the past membership expansion specifically focused on universities. On the other hand, many Chinese economists are working on industrial corporations. A great deal of communication among industrial and academic professionals is needed. In the past, I have been trying to invite the CES members to join industrial conferences which I'm affiliated. But we need a systematic way for this organization to collaborate with other non-academic organizations expanding from organizing only academic conferences.  It is indisputable that the rapid growth of Chinese economy has attracted a great attention from the world. There are many topics have been debated out of the territory of academic community. The CES is uniquely positioned to make significant contributions to facilitate the understanding on the Chinese economy beyond scholarly research. If elected, I want to make connections between the two through several platforms, including but not limited to industrial conference, internships to economics major students, joint research projects.

Secondly, I would emphasize initiatives to help our fellow students. Many of us didn’t have that access, but we can offer our time to our young fellows now. We should build up a work plan to help them on research direction, job hunting and career development. If elected, I would like to work on plans, including but not limited to webinar training, mentoring programs.

I also think we should enhance our current website. We need to improve the website and have it to be a useful resource to our members and non-members. I also think the transparency of this organization should be improved.
In addition, the growth of the CES requires financial support. I would like to utilize my working experience at financial firms to support continuous development of CES financially. I think establishing a CES scholarship is also a feasible way to go.

Statement

The endeavors of the senior members in CES to promote market-based economic reforms and the open-door policies in China, to endorse academic exchanges between China and the outside world, and to develop and support scholarly study and economic education have deeply impressed me and attract me to be a CES member. The scope and impact of the Society have been increasing drastically in years. Being a member in this Society, I would love to contribute to her growth.

CES has already brought significant impact through her well-known conferences, seminars and consultation to the government. I feel the Society can extend its influence further by broadening the areas of focal topics to labor, environment, welfare and etc in parallel with international trade, finance and development issues. CES can also play a unique yet important role in promoting academia and cultural exchanges by helping more Chinese universities without strong connections to the outside world, to build collaborative programs by introducing a special session into annual conference.

It is an honor to be nominated as a candidate for the BOD. If I have the opportunity to serve in the Board of Directors of the Society, I will work closely with the President and other BOD members in promoting the Society and in encouraging the academic links between China and the outside world to help CES continued success.
