The Report on the Presidents Forum

Chinese Economists Society successfully held its “Presidents Forum” during December 10-11, 2010 at Nankai University (Tianjin) to celebrate the 25th anniversary of CES. Thirty five specially invited guests attended the Forum, including all past CES presidents, the current President, the President-Elect, some senior CES members and Professor Jinglian Wu, Professor Dwight Perkins and Mr. Fengyun Lei from the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs.

The opening ceremony of the Forum was presided by Dr. Junlu Ma, Dean of School of Economics in Nankai University and the current CES President, Dr. Yanling Wang. In the opening speech, Dr. Yanling Wang gave a brief history of CES, and highlighted the major achievements during the past 25 years. Dr. Yanling Wang held a special ceremony to confer the customer-made souvenirs to mark the contributions to CES from the 25 CES presidents, 3 “CES Outstanding Contributors” (Professor Gregory Chow, Professor Jinglian Wu and Professor Dwight Perkins) and 15 “CES Outstanding Members”.<p>


Professor Wu then gave keynote speech, titled as “How does Economics Make Better Contributions to China’s Society”. Dr. Guoqiang Tian, representing all CES presidents, made a keynote speech: “China’s Economic Reform and the Responsibilities of CES”.

The Forum also consists of 6 roundtables with CES presidents as panellists, and CES outstanding members as chairs. The 6 roundtables are “Three Agricultural Problems” and Urbanization; International Trade and Globalization; Labor, Social Security and Public Finance; China’s Economic Mechanism and the Market Economy; and the “China Model Debate”. The discussions lead to many constructive suggestions.

After the Forum was concluded in Tianjin, Dr. Yanling Wang led a delegation of 10 CES Presidents and Outstanding Members to attend a meeting in Beijing with the Vice General Director, Mr. Yanguo Liu from the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs.
