Abstract:
|
This paper gives new evidence about the relationship between nutrition, health and earnings in China. Using China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) data and estimating by 2SLS and Fixed Effects model, we find nutrition intake has significant positive effects on earnings, and the improvement of nutrition structure can affect the growth of earnings in urban China. In addition, the weight-for height (WFH) and the body-mass-index (BMI) have positive impacts on earnings. In the long run, height can affect the earnings of urban residents. Therefore, this paper verifies the nutrition-based efficiency wage hypothesis in China.
